As the airport process planning and design consultant, SPS has been deeply involved in the planning and construction implementation of the Guangzhou New Airport (Terminal Area and Comprehensive Supporting Engineering), and supported the official groundbreaking of this landmark project.

On March 25, 2026, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Guangzhou New Airport was officially held. With this milestone, Guangzhou has become the fourth city in China to operate dual international airports, following Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu.

As one of the members of the core design consortium for the project, SPS has joined hands with top-tier teams including Guangdong Architectural Design & Research Institute Group Co., Ltd., ARTELIA (France), and China Railway Shanghai Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. to turn the grand blueprint of “Lingnan Crown” into reality.

Guangzhou New Airport is located in Gaoming District, Foshan, at the geographical center of four cities: Foshan, Zhaoqing, Jiangmen and Yunfu. Upon completion, it will fill the gap of an international air hub on the west of the Pearl River, directly serve a population of over 20 million, as a western wing engine for regional coordinated development.

The current phase of the project involves a total investment of 41.8 billion yuan, covering an area of approximately 1,213 hectares. It is planned to have 3 runways and 2 terminals, with a flight area classification of 4E. In the near term, it will be able to handle an annual passenger throughput of 30 million and cargo throughput of 500,000 tonnes. In the long term, the planned passenger throughput will reach 60 million, with a cargo throughput of 2.2 million tonnes.

Centered on the design concept of Lingnan Crown, the terminal complex adopts an overall layout inspired by the image of a Lion Dance, and its shape resembles the Number One Scholar Crown in Cantonese Opera, integrating the cultural heritage and distinctive elements of Lingnan. The project upholds the philosophy of integrated air-rail and urban rail transit development. Multiple rail lines such as the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway and Shenzhen-Nanning High-Speed Railway converge beneath the terminal, enabling passengers to complete check-in and transfers on the same floor and achieve zero-distance seamless connections.

In the future, this new aviation hub will work with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport and other airports to jointly build a world-class airport cluster, injecting new aviation momentum into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
