SPS was invited to attend the opening ceremony of Pudong Airport Satellite Hall
On September 16, 2019, The Shanghai Airport Authority and the City of Shanghai officially celebrated the opening of the Shanghai Pudong International Airport Phase III Expansion project and satellite hall. As active members of the Shanghai Airport Authority’s planning, design and construction team, Mr. Jeffrey Thomas, CEO of SPS, Ms. Qianlin Li, President of China, and Mr. Blanck Russell, Associate Vice President, were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Satellite Hall.
As the largest single satellite hall in the world, Pudong Airport Satellite Hall covers an area of 620,000㎡. After the opening of the satellite hall, Pudong Airport can efficiently serve 80 million annual passengers. This major accomplishment will further improve the passenger experience, create new development space and bring new economic opportunities for Shanghai Pudong International Airport, enabling it to become one of the world’s most efficient international aviation hubs.
Since completion of the Pudong International Airport Terminal T2 design project in 2004, SPS team members have participated in multiple planning and design projects for Shanghai Pudong International Airport(PVG) and Hongqiao International Airport(SHA), including the master planning of PVG, the design of terminal T2 of PVG, the preliminary scheme study of satellite hall of PVG, the master planning of SHA , the design of the Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation Hub, and T1 terminal reconstruction design of SHA.
In May 2019, the design submitted by the consortium formed by SPS and East China Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. (ECADI) won first place in the International Solicitation of T3 Terminal Area Planning and Complex Design of PVG. Since the design submitted by the consortium was chosen as the first-place award, the consortium has been working on the design and implementation leading up to opening day.
Integrating global industry experience and expert resources, SPS will continue to help Shanghai build a world-class aviation hub and continue to contribute to the development of China’s civil aviation industry.
